This type of Mutual Fund invests in debt and money market securities, with average maturity of 6 – 12 months. There is a lower risk due to the short period and the type of debt it invests in. There is a lower risk because companies don’t default on this, otherwise they have to reduce their profits to make a provision for other longer term debt.
